WILOCI to hold International Women’s Day Concert

For the first time, the UP Women Lawyers’ Circle (UP WILOCI) jointly with Santa Isabel College of Music, will hold an INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CONCERT on March 8, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Sto. Cristo del Tesoro Auditorium, 210 Taft Ave Manila.

This will be a celebration of International Women’s Day featuring outstanding baritone, JOSELEO LOGDAT and FRIENDS, composed of 25 classical singers and musicians. JOSELEO is the 2012 Grand Prix winner of the Yokohama International Music Competition and the 2013 Dangal ng Lahi Awardee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). On the same date, JOSELEO LOGDAT will be celebrating his Pearl Jubilee, his 30th Birthday. He dedicates this concert for UP WILOCI‘s advocacylegal literacy and legal aid in defense of disadvantaged women and children.

The concert consists of songs that honor and describe women in celebrated operas through some of the best loved classical music. Arias from Carmen, Don Giovanni, La Favorita, Don Pascuale, La Boheme, Rigoletto, The Pearl Fishers and Faust will be sung. There will be sub – titles on the arias for the better understanding and appreciation of classical music. The classical singers will also render memorable songs from Broadway and the Philippine stage, e.g.:  Mama, To all the girls I’ve loved before, Pretty Woman from Sweeney Todd, from zarswelas: Walang Sugat and Katy.

Joseleo will be joined by some of the best and up-coming classical singers in the country: Cocoy Laurel, Noel Azcona, Nomher Nival, Kay Balajadia, Maribel Miguel, Thea Perez and others who have sung with Joseleo in other concerts. They will be accompanied by the Santa Isabel Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Prof. Daniel Bartolome, Conductor, and the Santa Isabel College Singers. Pianists: Dr. Raul Navarro, Profs. Belinda Salazar, Jane Namit- Mahipus and Bernica Sioson- Tuason will play piano duets and accompany the singers.

Santa Isabel College is one of the oldest colleges in the Philippines. It has been around for 385 years when it was established in Intramuros in honor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary under the Royal Decree of Queen Isabella II.  It has produced some of the country’s outstanding musicians like: the legendary soprano Jovita Fuentes, concert pianists Ingrid Santamaria, Christine Coyiuto and others.

The concert is likewise in remembrance of women who have encouraged Joseleo in his musical studies: his late mother, Leonila Ceballos of Marinduque, and the Santa Isabel nuns who discovered his singing voice and gave him a scholarship to study music at Santa Isabel College. Joseleo also holds a Master’s Degree in Opera Performance from Hiroshima’s Elizabeth University of Music. He was under the tutelage of famed baritone Gamaliel Viray and Japanese baritone Hiroharu Orikawa.

In- charge of the Concert are: UP WILOCI President Wilma Cua and past President Diane Franco together with Lorna Manalo-Veloso, Chairman of the Concert Committee together with Lulu Laurea and Edna Diño.
